Aixelo presents on how AI accelerates the development of metal-organic frameworks.

In what promises to be an eye-opening discussion on the challenges and benefits of using AI in MOF synthesis, at the upcoming MOF2024, Aixelo Inc. co-founder and CTO Manuel Tsotsalas will present insights he gained first-hand from a number of key studies.

The 9th International Conference on Metal-Organic Frameworks and Open Framework Compounds, as the biennial event is officially named, takes place July 15-19 in Singapore. Organized by the Materials Research Society of Singapore, MOF2024 is a major platform for researchers, scientists and professionals from around the world to advance MOFs and other open framework compounds.

Tsotsalas’ presentation, titled “Accelerating MOF Synthesis: An Experimentalist’s Insight into AI Integration,” is scheduled for 11:50 a.m. July 18. Guided by a passion in experimental chemistry devoted to health and sustainability, Tsotsalas looks forward to sharing his perspective based on studies conducted on integrating AI into research projects at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, Germany and Northwestern University in Evanston, Il.

“These learnings are factored in the design of our Aixelo experimental planner aimed at making AI integration seamless for experimental chemists while maximizing its benefits,” said Tsotsalas, who, in addition to his roles at Aixelo, is a tenured Helmholtz Young Investigator Group leader at KIT and visiting lecturer at Northwestern.

During his talk at MOF2024, Tsotsalas will offer an experimentalist’s perspective on integrating AI into MOF synthesis and discovery.

“I will share my first-hand experiences, concentrating on both the exploration and potential advantages, as well as the challenges and obstacles encountered in integrating AI with established experimental practices in MOF research,” he said.

This discussion will cover aspects ranging from data management, extraction and curation to prediction and optimization of synthesis conditions – all aimed at illuminating the real-world complexities of implementing AI in a laboratory environment.

About Aixelo

Aixelo partners with chemical and materials companies to integrate AI into their day-to-day R&D operations. Aixelo (āk-sel-o), which stands for AI-Accelerated Operations, is devoted to closing the growing gap between the rapid advances in AI technology and its actual use in labs. Eliminating the common pitfall of well-intentioned companies that thicken the already muddy cloud of AI tools and non-scalable pilot projects, Aixelo equips organizations with AI enterprise software and methodologies that facilitate adoption at scale. The company’s closed-loop AI becomes the guide in decision making to solve material science challenges faster and more successfully – its open platform empowers data science teams to integrate their own valuable know-how for maximum digital impact.
